The Masters Tournament was first held in 1934, at the Augusta National Golf Club. The tournament was the brainchild of legendary golfer Bobby Jones, who wanted to create a tournament like no other that would be held at a course he has co-designed. Jones enlisted the help of investment banker Clifford Roberts to finance the tournament and oversee its operations – Roberts & Jones then created what would become one of the most revered and historic golf tournaments in the world. It was not until the late 1930s that The Masters began to gain traction, with world class golfers like Sam Snead and Ben Hogan playing in the event.
